I'm a sham. A con-artist. A hypocrite. I'm sorry to say it, but it is true. You've all been swindled. Bamboozled. Duped.
Remember a few days ago when I was all, "Oh, I love the Earth. And we all have to do our part. And CHANGE STARTS WITH ONE PERSON." Remember all that?
So what happens today when I go to the grocery store? Picture me with a buggy half full (that's me, always optimistic) of groceries and Emma Mae sitting in the front sucking on the buggy. I'm on aisle 13 or so. You got me? I really want you to feel this moment with me.
"Oh, my gosh, I totally don't have any of those bags with me. They are all in the car. Do I
A. Grab Emma Mae leaving a buggy full of groceries in the middle of the store. Run to the car and grab the bags, hoping that everything in the buggy will be fine until I get back.
B. Buy more of the bags when I get to the register, adding at least another $20 to my already mounting grocery bill.
C. Just use the plastic ones. Earth be darned.
Which one do you think I chose?
Yes, I chose C. But you wouldn't believe how long I pondered what I should do. And then the enormous, completely ridiculous, guilt I felt because I didn't use them. I have actually looked for the place at WalMart to recycle the plastic bags, but have yet to find them.
(This was not my regularly scheduled post for today. You will have to stay tuned for that one.)

I would have chosen "C" and started "saving the earth" on my next trip to the store. That's just me though. So what did you do??
Sometimes life gets in the way of the environment. I used paper plates and plastic cutlery at daughter's party on Saturday, I felt really guilty, but not guilty enough to add to the already mountain of washing up created by party!
(Tesco (TGFT) will take back the free plastic bags for recycling, can't you do that?)
I'm so glad that you found my blog and, more importantly, that you like it! Thanks for the support and encouragement...seriously.

I would have chosen "C" too. Then recycle the plastic ones. I agree with everything Gigi said. I did follow in your footsteps and bought 10 of the black bags!! But I can totally see me doing the same thing! I have mommy brain!! And you have it twice as bad as me b/c you have four kids......LOL!
I think you'll be okay. I wouldn't have bought the bags in the first place, because we would have never remembered them and then I would be force to buy trash bags for our bathrooms & bedroom trash cans, because I use the grocery bags to line those cans. I know someone might suggest that I not use liners for the cans and wash them out, but I can tell you that aint happening if your counting on me doing it and besides it would be wasting our precious supply of water. You see, those bags will just start a crazy chain of events ... but, I support you because I think, when you remember to take the bags into the store, you are doing a great thing! Better luck next time!
I too am ashamed to admit that I would have just gone with the plastic bags. Sandy is right- what on earth am I going to line my bathroom trash with if I don't have a few Wal-Mart bags lying around? If I were a true friend of the earth and not just a fair weather friend I would not use any bags and just spray it down with Lysol after I empty it. But then I would be spraying flouracarbons (or whatever they're called) into the atmosphere. Does the guilt ever end?!
sometimes ya just gotta be practical, so i'm guessing it was "C"!
Oh the recycle bins for the bags here are at the front of the store where the carts on. I would just ask the person who stands at the door. They'll let you know!
And then if they look at you like you are crazy, just say well they have them in Utah!!!!!
In an effort to "go green" last year, I did the same thing. And I was really good at it before I went back to work and wasn't so flippin' crazy that I lost my brain. Now I go with the plastic bags and send them to school with Maddie. They're collecting them to sponser a park bench somewhere.
To "working mum," here in North Georgia where we are in a drought, we're actually encouraged to use paper products. In fact, some restaurants have even started serving drinks (including wine) in paper cups to help conserve water. So just think of it as saving water when you use paper plates and such. :)
Yup... been there & done that.
