What was I doing 10 years ago? I have already talked about a lot of the things that were going on about 10 years ago but I will try to come up with some sort of obscure things.
1. 10 years ago I was 19. (Making me officially 29, really) I was learning lessons in debt. I had just gotten my first credit cards and I was maxing them out. I remember standing at a pay phone, calling the 800 number and checking to see what I had left available to use on my card. Usually it was only the $25 credit I had gotten for paying my minimum payment. Should young people be able to do this to themselves? Another topic for another day.
2. Later that year I was explaining to my soon to be husband why I had so much debt and why I had absolutely nothing to show for it. I had bought a VCR and stereo for about $700. I had nowhere near paid them off when I sold them for about $300 to make the move back home to Georgia. Yes, I was making very smart, mature, adult decisions.
3. I was unbelievably happy for my mom who had gotten remarried after years of being a single mom. Things were finally going her way...until...Well, that's not for me to tell, but maybe one day she'll start her own blog and talk about her hard knocks. I will say that she is one of the strongest people I know.
4. Working things out with my dad whom I had offended greatly and welcomed me back with open arms. I guess that's that old unconditional parental love.
5. Learning to be alone a lot. I had, afterall, married a hunter. Maybe had we dated a little longer I would have known what I was getting into, but it is probably better that I didn't. I remember that Gigi would say, "There will be a day when you will look forward to him going hunting." I thought, " She must not understand our love". How foolish was I?
5 things on my list to do today:
1. I have got to figure out what to do for dinner. I have laid out bone-in chicken breasts and I have no idea what to put together quickly with that.
2. Jonathon has to be at baseball at 5:30 and then he is supposed to do a nature hike at 6:30. Thankfully, we have a great grandpa who will do all of this running around for me.
3. Somehow keep Madi from demolishing the house. She is going through the 'curious' stage. This afternoon she got into an ink pad and gave herself rosey cheeks.
4. I was supposed to go to the bank by 4 pm but Madi is still napping, so that will wait until tomorrow.
5. Finish this very overwhelming meme. Thanks, Reluctant. ;)
Snacks I love but probably shouldn't be eating:
1. I just ate one of the kids' chocolate bunnies from Easter. I ate the whole thing. It was delicious and I couldn't stop myself. No willpower. But then I felt really sick afterwards.
2. My afore mentioned, Nestle drumsticks. Remember, I have one every night. Not tonight, though. That would be just too much after the Easter bunny.
3. I have a favorite candy for every holiday. Valentine is conversation hearts. Easter is Cadbury eggs. Halloween is candy corn. Christmas, there are just too many to pick one.
4. Are chili cheese fries bad for you? Aren't they full of protein and dairy? Not to mention how good the beans in the chili are for your digestive system. I'm just going to scratch that one right off since it is so good for you.
5. I have also mentioned my love for girl scout cookies. But I only eat those as a service to those sweet girls that are trying to earn money.
If I were a billionaire:
I would pay off my mom's house and give her enough money that she would never have to work again. I would give some money to the rest of my family and friends that needed it. I would love to stay right where I am, but I would knock my house down and start all over. I would also do a lot of world travelling. I wonder if I could pay someone to just potty train my last kid. I would like to not have to clean up those messes anymore.
5 bad habits:
1. Even though I am working on it I am still judgemental. I think I will be working on that one forever.
2. I gossip. I hate it, but I love it.
3. Obviously, I have serious credit card issues. I am slowly but surely resolving these and learning to live within my means.
4. I say what I'm thinking. This can be good, but mostly it is bad. My motto is 'It's not mean if it's the truth'.
5. I cannot find a way to work exercise into my routine. It's hard to do any when you have all of these kids attached to you at all times. Maybe I should say an 'easy' way to work it in. I realize I am making excuses.
5 places I have lived:
I was born in Kentucky. My family moved to Louisiana. We moved to a couple of different cities in Louisiana. When my parents divorced my mom moved us to Georgia. I graduated from high school here, then moved to Alabama. Then I moved to Utah. What a fabulous place to live, that is. Now I am back in Georgia.
5 jobs I have had:
1. I was a cashier at a grocery store. That was fabulous but very underpaid. There is something about scanning things. Even now, I opt for the self check out.
2. I have worked at the GAP various times in my life. I have loved it most every time.
3. I was a telemarketer. I didn't call people, though. They called us to ask questions about Gatorade. I was the 800 number on the back of the bottle. If anyone has anything they have been wondering about Gatorade, please feel free to ask.
4. I was a hostess at Chili's. I think I have mentioned that. They have great food and I really enjoyed my job.
5. I was a waitress at Sea Island. I actually really loved that job and made lots of money. Not an ideal job with a family, though.
Whew. I'm glad that is done. Thank you, Reluctant for being interested in me enough to ask me to do that. I guess I should tag some people. I pick anyone who didn't get an award and is still bitter about it. Yes, Leah that means you.

yep - the east coast if nz isn't called 'first to see the light' for nothin! i frightened a blog friend in atlanta when she came to my blog on 'my' monday morning and she thought she'd forgotton to go to work!!!
how's the chicken dinner coming?
You noticed that I threw in the towel on that. We did have chicken, it was just picked up through a drive-thru. I am glad to know that you actually read all of that.
Thanks for being so quick on updating your blog just for moi! You are an absolute crack up... I love my title as well "I heart Carlston"! It's not that exciting for anyone else since I'm totally paranoid of perverts and have made my blog private, but it does feel great to be included! Love ya.
P.S. - Always like learning more about you and I am thrilled to learn about your mom (even if it did happen 10 years ago - we all deserve to be loved!).
We too had fast food fried chicken for dinner tonight. Thanks for all the great info on you. I enjoyed reading it. I have spending issues too....how did you come to terms with it???
Well no chicken here, well maybe we did if you call scrambled eggs and grits, chicken.
How did you get all that bloged today and still have time to change Emma Mae's diaper? That was looong. Glad to know just a little more about you.
I love to read your blog. I read it at night when my husband is getting ready for bed. When I laugh he always says what is so funny. I tell him "nothing". It is a blogger secret. But of course I read a little bit to him and he is always amused that I crack up about the littlest things. Keep me laughing'.
Amanda, we truly have a great deal in common. When I got home from my mission I got a call from a credit card telemarketer. He asked how much I made, I told him I was unemployed. He asked about my home, I told him I lived with my parents. The next thing I know I get a credit card in the mail with a $10,000 spending limit! I didn't spend $10,000, but I did spend way too much. I made fried chicken for dinner! I was going to try a recipe for sweet and sour chicken, but it took me so long to fry the chicken that I dumped out the sauce and made some instant mashed potatoes (they were gross, but really, what did I think was going to happen when I poured a bunch of flakes into hot water?) and green beans. You have always had such a great sense of humor. I thoroughly enjoy reading your blog.
one day I would like to talk to you about gatorade
That living within your means stuff. Oh boy, I know how hard that is!
I do have an actual factual question about Gatorade. Since I'm from 'out of town' I hope you don't mind me asking - is that just a juice concentrate or is it really supposed to be a sports drink?
When I first saw the powdered stuff (in an american boyfriend's kitchen) I thought it looked medicinal, so I didn't like to ask him!
Wow. I am so happy to be able to put some of my random knowledge to good use.
Gatorade was conceived at the University of Florida. Scientists there needed to come up with a drink that would help their football players replinish minerals that their bodies lost with sweat. Hence the name 'Gator' ade.(the football team is the Florida Gators) Gatorade has a high amount of sodium and sugar. This is because your body looses these things through sweat but needs them to keep going. So, if you are really active it is good to drink it to keep you going. It is also a great thing to give your kids when they are sick and dehydrated. It has a good taste and will rehydrate their bodies better than water or sprite. We got more calls from mom's who used it for that purpose than anything else. Was that more than anyone ever really wanted to know about Gatorade?
Sure was.
No really, thank you for that. Always wondered about the name - you were quite right to explain the florida gator/football connection. I am clueless about football.
good stuff! I found that very interesting....i love nestle drumsticks tooo i try to stay off of that aisle completely at the store! I too struggled with the credit card thing , but learned my lesson early & well ( its something about turing 18 & needing all of these things you really dont need at all!!!! ya know.... anyway good stuff, your so funny...
Ok, since you were the one to bring up working at the GAP, I find this the perfect opportunity to mention to all that I worked for Amanda at the said GAP. How was it you ask? Well, when I decide to start my blog, I'll tell you all about it:)
Listen, I think you could probably have at least three months of posts out of that. I hope and pray that you will never really do it.
And I'm a different person.
And I felt like I had to be that way to provide a living for my family.
And I'm sorry.
And I hope you can forgive me.
Please don't ever really do it...
Thanks for sharing. This was cool. I enjoyed it.
David
