Earth Day

Ladies and Gentlemen, it's time to get it together here. It's time to do the right thing and make the Earth sustainable for our kids and grandkids. I thought it would be fitting, since today is Earth day, to show you what I am doing to save the world. What? Who's that saying that? Is that you sass? Or was that Echo? What do you mean today is not Earth day? Yesterday? Are you sure? Why didn't I get the memo?
Well, whatever. Let's just all pretend it's Earth day today. Afterall, shouldn't it be Earth day, everyday? So back to my contribution to Earth day. Do you see them there? I made the switch. Paper or Plastic? No thanks, I brought my own.

I would like for you to pay no mind to the fact that these fabulous bags that will save our world are in the back of a gas guzzling Yukon XL. I would also like you to ignore my pack of plastic bottled water. I am doing little bits at the time, okay.
I had tried to start this a few days ago. I bought some bags from Target. The irony that my sweet little cashier put them in a plastic bag was not lost on me.
I don't think that this cute little set of plastic ware is doing anything to save the Earth, but it was a gift from Gigi and I wanted to share it. How sweet was she to bring this back from IKEA for me. Looks like we will be getting some good use out of it.

Can you tell that I'm really trying? That I see the importance of stepping up to the plate where our planet is concerned? These bags were another easy way to do SOMETHING. I made the change a few weeks ago to the new weird light bulbs. Funny story about that.

Josh: Honey, do we have any lightbulbs?

Me: Yeah, they are where they always are.

Josh: No, I'm not talking about the fancy ones. I just want the plain old ones.

Change starts with one person.

Are you a tree hugger now?

I think its great. Where did you get those bags?

Is Emma Mae pretending to have food or is she really eating?

Excuse me but the cute little set of plastic ware is saving the world because you aren't using paper plates!

I also bought my little save the planet bags when I was at Ikea they had them for 59 cents. I thought that was a good deal and then I got one for free last week when I went to Walmart.

I switched to the light bulbs last year but I'm just like you because I still have my bottled water and drive my truck that drinks gas like a thirsty camel. But like you said baby steps, baby steps.

If you want it to be Earth Day, then I think it's Earth Day too.

Those bags are great. No ripped plastic bags to spill out in car parks.

The new plates and cutlery are great for Emma Mae. She'll be able to move on from rummaging in the rubbish bin for her grub now!

I like your bags....I, too, would like to know where you got those?? The only thing I do is recycle my plastic bags.....I guess I need to step up and do more. Do you think if everyone used those bags that the price of gas could come down???LOL Totally unrelated I know, but dang gas is expensive!!!!

I can hear Josh asking for the normal lightbulbs not the fancy ones!! LOL

Where did you get the bags. I have been wanting to make the switch. Maybe when I get back up and going. Speaking of which, I haven't been to the grocery store in 7 weeks...can you imagine?! Ralph will be so glad when I can walk normal again!! LOL

Confession time - I don't like those energy efficient light bulbs. The light is yucky from them - it feel like fluorescent tubes to be and I hate those. We have them in our overhead lights, that's probably why we use our lamps so much.

The bags came from Wal-Mart. They were stuck on the backside of one of those big stands over by the cigarettes. I only found them because an employee told me they were there. They are not strategically placed at all. You would really have to ask for them to find them. BUT, they were only $1 and they are very big. They are much nicer than the red ones that I bought at Target for the same price.
Gotta go back outside now, I see a tree that missed it's hug.

This reminds me of a story Ryan told me about him and his brother Adam going to Wild Oats (earthy story). The checkout girl said "paper or plastic" and Adam said "whatever kills the baby seals the fastest".

You are good! Where do you keep the bags? I would always be forgetting them.

Brilliant, Amanda! I have lots of bags, but I certainly didn't refuse the awesomely huge green bag that they gave me for free at Wal-Mart last weekend! It's great. I think stores should stop giving out bags all together. THere should be a big sign outside that says "BYOB." I guess then they would have to explain that the last b stands for bag, not beer. By the time they finished with all that how many trees would have to have been cut down for the sign? It never ends!!!! Anyway, I think it's great. Instead of hugging a tree, hug yourself for caring!

oh, and i'm pretty sure it was ACTUALLY earth day, coz miss 16 came up to me yesterday (or the day before) and said 'guess what day it is?' i love 20 questions (read, hate!) so i'm like '6 months since you broke your last boyfriend's heart?' (give me a clue at least!) 'nah', she says, 'it's earth day', so there you go - INTERNATIONAL earth day, even.
