The Jane Austen Book Club
A few weeks ago Direct TV called and asked if I would like to get a few free movie channels and they would lower my monthly bill by $10 for a whole year. All I had to do was agree to stay with them for a year. I said sure. Now I have these movie channels that really show the same older movies again and again. Over the past week I have watched Becoming Jane, Emma and The Jane Austen Book Club. Someone at the movie channels must have a girl crush on Jane Austen. But so do I. I could watch Pride and Prejudice with Kiera Knightly back to back for a whole weekend and probably still not be sick of it. Anywho, the whole premise of the movie The Jane Austen Book Club is a group of completely unique women getting together and discussing the Jane Austen book that has been assigned for that month. It was a cute silly movie that I never would have rented but enjoyed watching. And it inspired me to try to read all of Jane Austen's novels. If anyone thinks they would like to be in a little book club to read her books with me, let me know. If you think I am a big ol' dork, don't let me know. Thanks.
P.S. Who would have thunk there would be so many options as to how the books were published. The OCD side of me wanted to get the ones that were published in a library form so they would be uniform on my bookshelf but they were a few more dollars a piece. There were also some other copies that had more information about the setting of the books and author but they weren't as cute and girly as the ones I eventually opted for. It was really sad how long Emma Mae and I stood there trying to decide what the different options would say about me on my bookcase. Also, I'm thinking now, that I will tell people Emma Mae was named after the heroine in Ms. Austen's book 'Emma'.

I'll read with you! I love the movies but have never read the books and I would like to do that. Let me know what we are starting with and when to start! Give me enough time to go get the books!!! :)
I'll do this with you too. It'll be good to read Emma again - she's a great character. I'm already looking forward to telling you the part of that story I don't like.
We've got a couple of second hand bookstores in town so I'm looking forward to finding some well-thumbed bargains.
PBS masterpiece theater did a salute to Jane Austen all last year. They made some new movie adaptations of some of the books. Google it and maybe you can now rent these movies to go with your reading. I have some of them still on my TIVO.
i haven't read ANY of those books, OR seen the movies! i really need to do that! miss 16 is 17 tomorrow, so we'll be watching the indiana jones movie i brought her at target - only $14.59!!!
Oh, I love that part at the end when he says "Mrs. Darcy", smooch,

I love Jane Austen. My favourites are Pride and Prejudice and Mansfield Park. I'll happily re-read her books along with you. Which one are we starting with?
I'd like to read them too.
Hi Amanda! I just awarded you an "I Love your Blog" award. Just droppin' in to let you know.
The Jane Austen Book Club is one of only three books I couldn't finish, it was so bad (other two - Atonement and Eagle of the Ninth). Glad the movie was better for you!
Not a great Jane Austen fan myself, I prefer Thomas Hardy - Tess of the D'Urbevilles, The Mayor of Casterbridge, Jude the Obscure, etc. Fantastic!
\I will totally committ to this.
I will also be a hostess of one of the books.
