Biking, Anyone?

You are all aware by now how much I heart Jekyll Island. Well, another thing that Jekyll is known for, apart from Summer Waves, are it's fabulous bike paths. If you have not been biking over there, you are seriously missing out. You can bike the whole island on giant sidewalks that wind all the way around the length of the island. Anyway, I haven't been in a while, what with the having children and all, so, I decided the kids were old enough to give it a shot. And who better to go with than Echo's kids who were also out of school. I think everyone was really excited about it. Until we got there...

Look how cute Madi looks on her tiny little barbie bike. She and those tiny legs rode that tiny bike the entire way. I was so proud of her. (I'm emphasizing how tiny she and her bike are so that you can understand how hard it must be for that little body to keep up with big bodies on big bikes. She was a champ. Although, true to herself, she was a little klutzy.)

Then there were Jackson and Noah, who I don't know if you know this but are not afraid of anything on this earth. They rode really hard and were able to keep up with Jonathon and Christopher the whole time. And let me just say that that Noah has mad biking skillz. You know how everybody has their thing? Biking is MOST DEFINATELY his.

Then there was my sweet Bethany. She was totally hating my guts that day. I took the training wheels off of her bike to fit it in the car and the bikes that had training wheels on them at the rental place were too small for her. So, she had to sink or swim. But I think she just had her mind set that she couldn't do it. She did ride a few times without any help. But mostly she walked and pushed her bike. Bless her heart.
I rented the bikes for 4 hours. I was going to try to make it pretty far around the island. I realized after 1 hour and not a quarter of a mile into it that I wasn't really going to make it very far at all. After Bethany wiped out a few times, I decided to give her a break and just let everyone play on the beach. If you look closely in that picture she is trying to pull sandspurs off of her pants. Bless her heart. Did I mention it was about 75 degrees and breezy?

I guess I needed a break, too.

I don't know why, but I love this angle.

Except for the sun.

And my son. Who will never smile for a picture.

Pretty as a picture.

Do you see what Emma Mae is doing? And that snarky little smile on her face? And does anyone see the irony in the fact that her shirt says, 'S is for sweet'?

She's pondering whether she should do it or not.

I feel sure that if I had not intervened the devilish side of her would have won.
Then they walked to look for shells. See the St. Simons lighthouse over to the left?

What a crew.
I'm just thankful they let me tag along. I hope they want to go back. After I workout a little more, though.

So fun, you gotta love the beach in the winter time when it isn't hotter than, you know the word Madi says! I love biking and I've made a promise to do it more. I would have never taken that many children by myself! You are one brave mama. You go girl!

I love that you take my children everywhere, and they love to go everywhere.
Bethany has done nothing buy practice her biking skills since then. Although there was a lot of crying from her and she did say 'moving was the hardest part' I know she had a good time. She can't wait to go again.
I am so glad that you took pictures.

However, Sea would have had to ride his tri-cycle!! Sad........He's four and we have no place to teach him how to ride a bike! Maybe this summer when the snow dries up!
